Simple Tomato Kurma / Thakkali Kurma Recipe :

Tomato kurma is a simple and tasty side dish that goes well with idly/ dosa/ chapathi/ idiyappam.
Tomato Kurma

Ingredients:


  1. Tomatoes - 4 Finely chopped
  2. Onion - 2 Finely chopped
  3. Crushed garlic and ginger- 3 tsp
  4. Homemade Kuzhambu powder - 5 tsp   Or 
  5. (Coriander , Red chilly powder - Each - 2 tsp, Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp)
  6. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Oil - 2tsp
  8. Few curry leaves
  9. Few Coriander leaves
  10. Salt to taste

For Coconut Paste:


  1. Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  2. Fennel Seds - 1tsp
  3. Roasted Gram/Pottukadalai - 2tsp
  4. Poppy seeds - 1/2 tsp (optional)
  5. Water



Method:

Take all the Ingredients

Grind the coconut paste 

Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add urad dal, curry leaves and onions saute it well

Then add crushed ginger and garlic ,saute it for a min ( This crushed ginger and garlic will give nice aroma to the kurma)

Add the tomatoes and some salt  , stir it well
Cover with the lid for 2mins

Fry till mushy

Add Kuzhambu powder 

Add the coconut paste 

Then add 1 cup of water and salt 

Let it boil for 10 - 15 min

Turn off the flame and add chopped coriander leaves

Serve hot with Idly/dosa
